Rayyan Campus Principal

18 May 2010

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Mrs. Donna Brackstone-Drake as the Rayyan Campus Principal with effect from September 2010. Mr. Geoff Hazell has been serving in a temporary capacity and will be returning to the UK at the end of this term.

Mrs. Brackstone-Drake has been through a rigorous interview process and we feel that she will be an excellent addition to our School Leadership Team.

Donna started her career as a teacher of English in a large comprehensive secondary school, becoming Head of English several years later. At this school Donna joined the Leadership Team and had responsibility for driving up standards across the curriculum as the ‘Schools Make A Difference’ co-ordinator. Donna has wide experience of preparing students for public examinations and, as Key Stage 3 Strategy Manager, was able to celebrate a 25% rise in the level 5’s achieved in the English SAT’s.

In her first substantive Deputy Head post, Donna helped to create a new school from two separate single-sex local schools. With the Head Teacher Designate Donna was charged with building up the school population and was pivotal in the successful Transition process and thereafter establishing a high performing school.

Donna has continued to teach and lead in a variety of London schools and Academies at secondary level, all serving students from a wide variety of backgrounds and abilities. In her last school, Ofsted (the UK Government school inspectors) judged Leadership and the Academy to be “outstanding”.

Donna is very excited by her new role and is looking forward to meeting all of the students and their parents and working together with her new colleagues to develop a vibrant and flourishing secondary school.

I look forward to welcoming Donna to Doha in August and I know that she will arrive fully focussed on ensuring that our Rayyan Campus students are learning well.

Yours sincerely,

John Todd

Head of School
