School Nursing Guidelines
The First Aider will record any incidents in the Nurse’s Treatment Book including the following information:
If deemed necessary, depending on the severity of the situation, communication should be made with the parent either by telephone, a note sent home or through their communication books.
If the incident is an injury, then an injury form should also be completed (if this is not completed, it can be undertaken retrospectively). Statements from any members of staff who witnessed the incident should also be included where possible.
The injury form is then forwarded to the Head of School.
Parents should be contacted if an injury form is completed. This may be by using a note or by telephone depending on the situation.
Medications are to be given as per the guidelines for the administration of medication by school personnel.
No medication is to be given without prior written consent from the parents.
The treatment book pages should be reviewed and signed by the Head of Campus weekly.
When the nurse is not present in school the Head of Campus will designate an appropriately trained First Aider.
