Iceland Volcano Disruption

17 April 2010

I am sure that many of you will have been following the news about the continuing volcanic eruption in Iceland that has caused so many problems with air travel across Europe. The school has been affected by this and seven teachers along with a number of Learning Assistants are stranded in different parts of Europe.

We have been able to secure the services of a number of supply / substitute teachers, but inevitably there will be some disruption to lessons until air travel restrictions are lifted. We will endeavour to run as normal a timetable as possible, but your child may have a supply / substitute teachers for the next few days and some specialist lessons may also be affected (Dutch and Art).

Please use this learning opportunity to talk with your child about the interconnectedness of the world and how events in one country can have such an enormous knock on effect across the globe. There are some excellent satellite images available online and you should be able to locate Iceland on the globe and trace the volcanic ash cloud across Europe.

I can only apologise for any inconvenience and I know that you will understand that the situation is beyond our control.

Yours sincerely,

John Todd

Head of School
