New WCL School opening in New York

25 April 2010

New York City will soon be host to a new private school, World Class Learning Academy, New York, offering a cutting-edge model of education that reflects the international character of the City itself.  Called the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), this highly-respected, internationally-recognized curriculum is used in over 900 schools in 58 countries worldwide.  World Class Learning Academy, a school opening in September 2010 on the Manhattan’s Lower East Side, will offer the IPC as the centerpiece of its learning program initially to children ages 3-11 (Pre-K through 5th Grade).

Children in IPC schools are active participants in their education and true citizens of the world: they understand and appreciate other cultures, are encouraged to question and discover, and develop personal skills such as adaptability, thoughtfulness, and respect.  They learn how to learn and are able to articulate their personal learning. Through the educational program they students work individually and collaboratively to problem solve and think critically in addition to acquiring  an array of skills that will prepare them for a future  that we know  will be vastly different from the world we know today.

World Class Learning Academy, New York will use a unique combination of The IPC and National Curriculum for England that provides a proven, innovative framework for learning and personal and social development.  Throughout the world, these curricula are regarded for their exceptional standards, for developing a student-driven focus on learning, and as gateways to esteemed colleges and universities in North America and around the world. The key to the  successful outcomes of students at World class Learning Academy, New York and the other world class learning schools is the personalized approach to student’s learning; each student has an individual learning plan that sets out goals specific to the child. The child understands their individual goals and how to work towards attainment of these goals; teachers assess and monitor progress, setting new targets and a personalized learning plan as the child progresses.

Teachers appointed to the World Class Learning Academy, New York are highly experienced and UK trained teachers who have in depth knowledge of differentiated learning styles and assessment.

Along with a range of extracurricular activities, World Class Learning Academy will offer children from the age of 3 the opportunity to learn a foreign language.  Art and design, early skills for music composition, and technology will all be well-integrated into each student’s school experience.  A program of regular assemblies, physical education activities, and performing arts opportunities will enhance the academic curriculum.

World Class Learning Academy, New York, is a member of the World Class Learning Group, an international leader in learning for over 25 years.  Students in World Class Learning Schools achieve well beyond the expectations for their age and ability.  World Class Learning Schools include the British School of Boston, British American School of Charlotte, British School of Chicago, British School of Houston and British School of Washington, in addition to Compass International School Doha.
