Gharaffa Campus - a new and exciting facelift
12 August 2009
Over the summer holidays, we have been working hard to give our Gharaffa Campus a new and exciting facelift. We hope that when you return on 01 September 2009, you will be excited by the look and that your children will be inspired by the learning environment that we offer.
The building work is due to be completed on 16 August and we will then deep clean the school and get classroom back into order for the start of the new school year. Photos of the building work are now available on the school web site so that you can get an idea of what is being done and how the work is progressing (http://www.cisdoha.com/AboutOurSchool/Campus%20Renovation).
Specific projects being carried out during the summer break include:
· Painting of the compound wall inside and out
· Painting of the school buildings inside and out
· Installation of a swimming pool shade that provide full protection for the pool and a more comfortable for swimmers with protection from the sun
· Upgrading of the pool filtration and electrical systems to provide better water quality for swimming
· Installation of additional air conditioning units in the new block plus new roof insulation
· Installation of glass doors on the set of four classroom behind the main building to provide a more conducive atmosphere in the classrooms
· Upgrading of administrative offices to provide a greater level of security and privacy
The most exciting and innovative development is the redevelopment of the front of the school building. We have utilised the veranda running round the side of the building to provide an exciting new Reception Area and School Library.
The Reception Area will allow more space for greeting visitors to our school and provide opportunities for our students to display their learning.
The new School Library will provide much needed expansion space for our growing library collection and allow students to access books and other materials with greater ease. We have also updated our library software so that students can access the library catalogue from anywhere in the school and write reviews or make recommendations for new books online.
You may also be aware of our new Rayyan Campus, situated near Equestrian Roundabout. The new Rayyan Campus has been designed to offer a purpose built school catering for students aged 3 to 18. From September, we plan to extend our programme to offer education to students aged up to 13 and additional classes will be added each year.
The secondary building is nearing completion and over the next week will be cleaned and equipment installed for classes to start in September. However, we have experienced some delays with our primary building and this will not be ready for the start of the new school year. We have been investigating a range of different contingency plans for the primary students scheduled to start at Rayyan including using other sites / buildings, temporary classrooms and co-location at the Gharaffa Campus. We have now taken the decision that locating the primary students at the Gharaffa Campus is the best option and so these students will be joining the Gharaffa Campus until the new primary school building is completed.
