Supreme Education Council Postpones Beginning of Academic Year for Students
Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Saad bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, yesterday issued a decision to postpone the opening of schools for the new academic year until October 4th as precaution against spread of swine flue. The decision applies to all the schools including private, community and Independent Schools. According to the approved schooling schedule for the academic year 2009/2010, teachers, administrative staff and members of school managements have to report for duty from Sunday 27th September 2009.
SEC decision has been taken in coordination with the Supreme Council for Health. Minister of Education and Higher Education said, the anti-flu vaccination to be dispensed to school staff, this will be the first stage of measures to be initiated to protect students from the swine flu virus and prevent its spread. All the staff members of schools will, however, be vaccinated against seasonal influenza during the week as a precautionary measure.
The above decision applies to all the schools including private, community and Independent Schools.
It also includes those Private Schools that opened on the 1st September.
